With headquarters spanning two continents, serving diverse communities across a gamut of geographic and sociocultural contexts, Gilbert Balinda Architects is dedicated to designing architectural, structural and spatial programmes that respond to the critical challenges of contemporary real world experience.
The studio’s work is deeply informed by cultural context, collective memory and human connection, with founder Gilbert Balinda’s own history being profoundly shaped by his childhood experiences of East Africa, his family seeking asylum from the genocidal Rwandan civil war in 1994, his subsequent education in Belgium, and his career as an acclaimed heritage specialist in the South African civic and cultural sectors.
