Project Architect with MRA

The 7000m2 Freedom Park Project was conceived by former President Thabo Mbeki, as the means to embody South Africa’s hard won Freedom. The architectural design of the //hapo museum was drawn from the collection of boulders in Credo Mutwa’s traditional healing garden. The large boulder-like volumes planted at the base of the Pretoria - Salvokop Hill like a rocky outcrop, contain the Museum exhibition spaces. These buildings are finished in copper sheeting, which will in time oxidize to a green hue to further connect with the surrounding natural landscape. The cavern-like interior spaces of the museum use natural light to further dramatize the large building volumes.
